What you need
- The month-end reporting package and MD&A
- Key KPIs
- Decisions or approvals you need from the board
Steps
- Paste the prompt with your package summary, MD&A and KPIs.
- Edit the slide headlines until each one states a conclusion.
- If your tool can build slides (Claude, or Copilot in PowerPoint), ask it to build the deck from the outline in your template; otherwise build it from the outline.
- Check every number against the package before sending.
The prompt
Create an outline for an [8-10] slide board presentation from the financial information below. Audience: [board / owners / lenders] Decisions we need from them: [list] Information: [paste package summary, MD&A and KPIs] For each slide give: - A headline written as a full-sentence takeaway (for example, "Gross margin slipped 2.3 points on freight and product mix"), not a topic label - Three supporting bullets with specific numbers - The best chart type and the exact data series to plot Slide 1 is the executive summary: the answer first. The last main slide lists the decisions and asks. Put the full financial statements in an appendix.
Review before you use it
- Every number matches the reporting package.
- Bar charts start at zero, and scales aren't stretched to exaggerate a trend.
- Each slide makes one point.
- Confidentiality labels are on the deck.
